Recently, I sent you guidance from the CDC about using Enhanced Barrier Precautions for patients with drug resistant organisms, wounds, and indwelling catheters.
This is an update to CDC guidance, and to my knowledge is NOT a CMS requirement. As such, there is no regulatory requirement to implement this guidance (yet).
So, I'd like to rescind any formal recommendation that I may have made and instead ask you to look at the information and consider if it may fit into your infection control process.
Certainly, a closer attention to wounds in those with MDROs (multidrug resistant organisms) makes sense and using EBP for these patients would not be a bad idea.
